The trip in the outback
Reismee.
Down Under in the Out Back.
Dear followers,
At this moment we have arrived at Cunnamulla at the edge of the outback. Partly because of the weather and partly we picked up our caravan in Broken Hill and it would be a long trip back to the coast to start there and then drive back to do this part later on.
The weather is been treating us very well after we left on Thursday and although we could not do everything we seen and done a lot. Just to give you an idea where we have been, here is the route we traveled.
Broken Hill 2 night, Warrawong 1 night, Cobar 1 night, Bourke 1 night and now 1 night in Cunnamulla. From here on we will be moving up north.
The campsite at Warrawong was a gem, it was situated next to the river and classified as a bush camping. Nice green grass surrounded by old gum trees new amenities, friendly staff who made sure everyone got what they needed. A reasonable sort dirt road made sure that you could not hear the highway. The place attracted all sorts of birds and parrots. In short; a pity to leave this the next day.
Cobar was a bummer, very busy and big but we got a spot at the very back so it was nice and quiet in the afternoon but at night we got entertained by all the roadtrains who used the road beside us to park and collect. In Cobar I got the car serviced because of the 12 months warranty I had to keep the service km up.
After the check-up they told me that the car could normally easily do this trip
with us. Up till now we already have done 2500 km.
Bourke, a beautiful campsite, just of the Kidman Hwy just a bit into the bush on the edge of the Darling River, where we went on a leisure trip with the paddle steamer. That way we did see a lot of birdlife, like pelicans, parrots and cockatoo’s, some roe’s and a lot of old trees. And the way people used to live and what floods do to a river like this.
On our trip today, which took us over 300 km gave us a double feeling. On one side; the open space, the red sands, the trees and a lot of birds everywhere, seen a lot of emus running about even with chicks. But on the other hand, we saw a lot of road kill. Like between 250 till 300 kangaroo’s, 20 goats, 3 wombats, 2 emu’s, and 1 ostrich, 5 wild hogs and 3 foxes.
Some of those dead animals I could not avoid completely so I am sure that some parts of all those bodies are hanging underneath the car. But I realize that this is the way of the outback.
Photos will follow asap.
