Dinosaurs Aussie.
Reismee.
Back in time, way back in the donkey ages!!!!!
Like I wrote in the part about how far and where we have driven up till now and where we have been, seen and done things, there is one special item I like to share with you today.
At Winton “right on the edge of the red center” , that way back in the dreamtime, an inlandsee was, a drover found just by luck a million years old petrified bone in 1990. After research it they discovered that it belonged to an ancient Dinosaur. They went to look further and deeper, to discover that under the current layer of black and red soil there is a concrete like layer that used to be the bottom of the old see. In that layer of rock you’ll find petrified parts of plants, trees, and animals like the Dinosaurs from the time that this area a warm and (sub) tropical. It must have looked completely different then, lush green, warm and moist compered to now, hot dry and red.
In the last almost 25 years they search on private grounds for a couple of weeks a year in the dry period and find so much that they can work for years on the findings with a whole team in the conservation centre and still have left overs.
Since a couple of years you can visit the conservation centre that is located on the top of a mountain outside of Winton after a drive on a dusty dirt road. Also there is a plain where you can see the tracks of Dino’s but that is only open certain times of the year.
We arrived to this year late to visit the tracks and the dig sites this time, but luckily the centre was (is) open so we had a visit. It is called the; “Age of the Dinosaurs”.
All the photos will give you an impression about the findings up till now and of course that differs not a lot from others findings in the world, but to find it here and to hear that this is only the beginning. Because there must be a lot more, well preserved under the clay in the see bottom in good condition.
There is one Dino, they called it Mathilda which is complete for 40%, and they even found an unknown type where they working hard on and we got to see some parts of it, really amazing.
The teams of workers consist out of professionals, assistants and volunteers. To be a volunteer you have to pay a lot of money, but you get a training, they coach you on the job and you either work, eat or sleep in the dessert or at the centre. You get a chance to puzzle the pieces together of living things from 25 till 49 years ago.
This is something I would like to do in the near future if I can, for now I became a support member of the organization.
The photos will speak for them self’s and if necessary I put some comment on them as well.
After driving for weeks in the out-back we moved on to “the Gulf of Carpentaria” at Karumba, to enjoy the warmth in the day and the night time with a nice 32 degrees.
Here we will stay for at least four nights and do things at driving distance from here.
Coming week we will be pushing on towards the city’s again, but this you’ll read later on.
To all our followers, we wish you a nice and layback weekend.
