Sydney NYE 2016. English
Sydney NYE 2016.
Just a shortened version from our NYE.
On the 31st we went with the four of us with the car to Narwee where we parked the car in the city and took the train to Sydney (Circular Quay). When we got there at about four pm it was already very busy everywhere. They expected about 1,500.000 people to watch the firework and to party. (it became 1,6)
What you should now is that every spot which is available in or around the Harbour to watch the show is being sold in the months previous to December. Just to give you an indication about prices, a simple piece of grass or even street view will cost you between $ 45 till $120,00.
If you want to dine or sit you’ll pay about $ 800,00 , or float and dine in the Harbour $2600,00. Getting on a luxury boot with drinks and dinner go’s up till $7500,00 a head.
In October we choose to book the old Luna Park so we be situated between the Bridge and Mainly Head. During our previous trip to Sydney we walked around there and decided to pick a spot on the boardwalk early in the evening.
We walked the bridge in the lovely sunshine and took photos of Sydney in the sunlight while crossing the bridge. After dinner we got to our line up at six where a lot of party goers where waiting to get in. Around seven we got in and straight away we got a photo taking from the four of us as memory for later. Then we got greeted by the Luna Park figures (like Disney) followed by a rock and roll band with nice old music and songs.
After a stroll through the park we went to take our desired spot on the boardwalk from where we could see all the main point, like the Opera House – The Bridge – and Mainly head. It was a good decision because at 9.00 pm when the first fireworks started you could not walk here anymore.
After ten o’clock the crowd was seated on the boardwalk and the only ones who tried to find a spot where tourist and backpackers, late arrivers who wanted the best spots and tried to move you away from your chosen spot. That didn’t work with us, we had a wooden beam from 50 x 50 cm between to Harbour poles, nice and safe along the waterfront.our spot was proven well chosen because at the early fireworks we could see it all with anybody disturbing our view.
Just before midnight big numbers appeared on one of the big bridge supports and the crowd started to help with the countdown.
At midnight the fireworks started to light up on three sides at ones. But after a couple of minutes it stopped on the bridge, there was a train riding the bridge. This happened a couple of times till someone must have blocked it an then the fireworks bursted out again in full.
I tell you this is a thrill on his own to start your new year this way.
Clear sky, 17 till 20 degrees, outside on a century’s old wooden deck, the decorated light up boats in the Harbour, Santa in a little boat floating around, the lights on the Opera House and fireworks everywhere around you in the Harbour, the four of us close together and everyone on the deck wishing you “Happy New Year”.
Afterwards we walked the bridge back to the city taking photos from Sydney by night, up to the disco from Charlie in the centre.
On our way back to the camping in Camden we scored a brekkie along the road because the morning light was starting to show already, and shortly after five in the morning we went to bed after al lovely day and night.
From our campsite at Camden we all wish you a fantastic and beautiful but above all a healthy 2016. The 4 downunders.
