News Flash, Flush.

Since three days we are stuck in Coober Pedy because of the current weather.

At the end of February the temperature rose in to the 40 degrees and more, but the day before yesterday it changed all of sudden. First a little rain in Alice Springs the day before we left but that evaporated very fast.

Short after our arrival in Coober Pedy the underground opal town) we got a cloudy sky and just before the evening a super storm moved in from the dessert and hit us with heavy wind, lots of rain, thunder and lightning.

Roads turned into rivers, gravel into mud, parking lots in swimming pools, hotels / motels got flooded, roads towards the bush or dessert are closed. The Hwy is still open but with warnings about flooding near creeks and rivers and gully’s.

Some spots more than 25cm of rain came down in one hour.

During Skyping, it broke down three times last night.

No tele reception.

No phone reception.

No worries, we are safe at a campsite!

Went for a drive with the car this morning and drove through 40 cm of water on the road.

Washed my feet on a parking lot in 30 cm of water, did wear my flip flops.

Another storm is predicted for later on today.

If the weather is better, we move on tomorrow morning towards Port Augusta.

All this is a part of our experience!

Cheers, from two wet “DownUnders”.
