The very hot weather in the outback. English

Ivanhoe or not.

We might be Dutch and we might be stubborn but sometimes we might have a bright moment as well. On the morning that we were suppose to leave Wilcania to head too Ivanhoe I saw a copper on the camping who I consulted. The road would be okay to drive up there even in de current heat which would be even hotter in that area but the main thing was , lake mungo fell completely dry and that left only the hot sand dunes to visit. 5,5 hours up and 5.5 down. Thus is this worth it???

After some deliberation we decided to head for the Snowy’s now instead of on Friday. So after about 5 hours’ drive we arrived at a roadhouse camp side on our way to Hillston, we took one look and the answer was unanimous , no this is not for us. This meant an other drive of 150 km to get to Hillston, but there is still enough daylight and the car is going well and our spirits are still high so we moved on. After a short call to the tourist camping they decided to wait till we were in at about19.00 hrs.

Again a warm welcome and very low rates because she reckoned that if I got a Aussie pension I deserved a pensioners rate. So for only 31$ we stayed one night with the 4 of us.

Setting up the van took only 30 minutes with the 4 of us and because we all needed a nice cold drink we headed for the RSL in the next block. After a couple of cold ones we moved on to the kitchen for a lovely meal prepared with 8 hands. It was still pretty warm and sleeping was hard in the beginning but we all fell asleep. Next morning after a complete brekkie back on the road again towards Lake Talbingo which was reserved already for Saturday the 26th so after a call they put us up for some extra nights as well. One night at 76 and the rest of the time at spot 75 exactly the same spot as last year when Els got sick, but now she is in a much better shape.

The first night was very cool and we even needed a sheet when early morning it dropped till close to 20 degrees.

Next day, Thursday, we drove into Tumut to spend a lot of $$ on food and grog and a walk through the peaceful town.

Friday, into the Snowy’s to see the old trails and towns, the Kiandra hut and lots of Bromby’s. drove all the way to Cooma for a short visit to the town and Carl and me went to Flynns wrecking yard to watch the old and forgotten cars of our past to walk into memory lane followed by a visit at the Victoria pub for a clod one to sink. Again a much cooler night to have a lovely sleep .

Saturday, via divers places we went too Thredbo for a walk along the river and look at the mountains and the long way back at sunset so we could see all the creatures who come out they’re hiding by that time.

So lots of things to look back at made some memory’s, had lots of fun so far.

More to read later on this blog, cheers.
